Our Approach

The first feeding studio built on student-powered clinical discovery.

BMTT is not a traditional accelerator, a hackathon, or a tech transfer office. It is a full-cycle venture formation platform with a defined curriculum, clinical partnerships, and a three-channel exit framework purpose-built to take student-driven ideas from observation to investable venture. Here is how it works.

Built for students. Valuable to everyone.

Infrastructure that benefits everyone in the ecosystem.

🎓

Students

Gain access to real clinical environments, structured methodology, and the tools to build career-defining work, with a meaningful stake in whatever they create.

🏛️

Universities

Gain a translational infrastructure they do not have to build themselves, activating the enormous untapped innovation sitting in their senior design programs and research labs.

🏥

Healthcare Providers

Gain a direct channel to surface the problems they live with every day and see motivated teams work toward real solutions, closing the loop between clinical pain and commercial innovation.

🔗

Ecosystems

Gain local ventures built with local talent, creating durable regional innovation capacity rather than ideas that leave with their founders at graduation.

❤️

Patients

Gain the possibility that ideas which would have collected dust instead become the solutions that reach them, closing the gap between unmet need and real-world impact.

🏗️

Venture Studios & VC Firms

Gain a reliable upstream pipeline of de-risked, validated venture frameworks, reducing their dependence on EiRs, scouts, and inbound deal flow.

Three validated channels for every venture.

We are committed to keeping students involved. Every team that completes our program has the opportunity to co-found or remain meaningfully involved in their venture. But we also built BMTT because we know all too well that students graduate, priorities shift, and life moves on. We refuse to let good ideas die because a student was not in a position to become a founder. The exit framework exists to honor both realities.

Channel 01

Co-Ship

The strongest teams co-ship their ventures alongside BMTT in a traditional institutional co-founder model, with shared equity and active operational support from our network.

Channel 02

Feeding Model

Frameworks better suited for deeper capitalization or specialized expertise are transferred to external studios or capable founders, equity and all, through our proprietary feeding model.

Channel 03

Build to Acquire

In select cases, BMTT retains and develops the venture entirely in-house through a proprietary build-to-acquire approach, targeting strategic acquirers from the outset.

Everything you need to know.

What is a venture studio?
A venture studio is an institutionalized co-founder: an organization that creates or co-creates ventures by providing both the operational know-how and the capital needed to take an idea from concept to company. Unlike accelerators, which invest in existing founders and ideas, studios originate ventures themselves, taking a more active role in building the company from the ground up and maintaining meaningful equity throughout.
Why venture studios?
The data is compelling. Venture studios have demonstrated a 60% IRR, and investors are increasingly drawn to the model for reasons beyond returns alone: studios offer proactive deal creation rather than passive deal selection, pro rata rights that let investors maintain ownership as portfolio companies grow, network effects that benefit every company in the portfolio, comprehensive operational support that improves startup survival rates, and more disciplined company structures that make ventures more attractive to follow-on investors. For a deeper look at the studio model and the research behind it, we recommend following Max Pog and Matthew Burris, two of the leading voices in venture studio research and design.
How does BMTT actually de-risk ventures before they exit?
De-risking happens at two levels. First, through process: every team completes clinical shadowing, structured customer discovery, competitive landscape mapping, and market sizing before any venture design begins. By the time a concept is formed, it has been validated against real clinical demand and real user populations. Second, through exit strategy: rather than forcing every venture down a single commercialization path, we match each validated framework to the channel best suited for its risk profile, capital requirements, and founding team. The result is a platform that functions simultaneously as a de-risking engine, an innovation pipeline, and a scalable venture origination machine.
What is a feeding studio, and what makes it different?
A feeding studio sits at the earliest stage of the innovation pipeline. Our role is to uncover unmet needs, pressure-test the market, and prototype early-stage solutions. Once a concept is validated, we "feed" it to downstream entities that specialize in full-stack development, scale, and fundraising. Unlike traditional venture studios that build 2 to 5 startups per year internally, we can explore dozens of ideas annually while keeping operations lean and capital-efficient. The feeding model is not a fallback; it is a deliberate strategic choice that lets us stay focused on breadth, speed, and repeatability while creating reliable deal flow for partners who specialize in growth.
Why focus on students instead of researchers or faculty?
Campuses are overflowing with untapped innovation: capstone projects, thesis work, clinical insights, and prototypes that collect dust for lack of a clear commercialization pathway. Traditional university tech transfer rarely touches these early-stage, student-driven ideas. Students are also highly motivated, extraordinarily cost-efficient, and embedded directly in the clinical environments where needs are identified. BMTT exists to catch this layer of the ecosystem before graduation erases it, surround it with structure and validation, and shepherd it toward real-world translation.
What advantages does the feeding studio model offer at scale?
Three core advantages: throughput and scale (we can explore dozens of ideas annually, far exceeding the output of most conventional studios); lean and student-powered operations (motivated students instead of full-time R&D staff, keeping the model nimble and capital-efficient); and validated deal flow (we de-risk early concepts, creating a reliable pipeline of investable startups for partners who specialize in commercialization and growth). By bridging underleveraged university talent with the rigor of translational science, BMTT doesn't just launch companies. We launch better companies, faster, while training the next generation of innovators in the process.
