Our Model

What makes Biomedical Think-Tank so unique?

We have forged a strong triangle of impact promoting education, innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. As a result, we generate high volume, high quality medical device startups. We believe BMTT is the first ever Feeding Studio implemented in this way.

Education

Training undergraduate, master’s, and healthcare students to be career-ready by instilling business modeling and networking know-how.

Innovation

Discovering clinical needs, analyzing markets, and engineering solutions.

Ecosystem

Growing local ecosystems one startup at a time by creating a more capable workforce and building select startups with local talent.

Some Frequently Asked Questions and their Answers

Q: What distinguishes our venture studio from the other 3,000 new ones?
A: Biomedical Think-Tank (BMTT) is pioneering the feeding studio model—a first-of-its-kind approach to translational innovation. Unlike traditional venture studios, which typically build 2–5 startups per year internally, we focus upstream: curating and validating high-impact clinical problems through a uniquely student-driven model. We then match these validated opportunities with the best-fit downstream partner—be it a full-service venture studio, an experienced founder, or a manufacturer ready to scale.
We’re not just creating startups; we’re building a repeatable ecosystem for need-driven innovation at scale.

Q: Could you elaborate on what a ‘feeding studio’ is?
A: A feeding studio sits at the earliest stage of the innovation pipeline. Our role is to uncover unmet needs, pressure-test the market, and prototype early-stage solutions. Once a concept is validated, we “feed” it to downstream entities that specialize in full-stack development, scale, and fundraising.
Our process includes:

  1. Sourcing and curating clinical problems from students, providers, and patient-facing experiences;

  2. Running structured discovery and market validation with student-led teams;

  3. Partnering the strongest opportunities with venture studios, founders, or manufacturers—allowing us to stay focused on breadth, speed, and repeatability.

Q: How does operating as a feeding studio offer advantages over traditional venture studios?
A: Feeding studios offer three major advantages:

  1. Throughput & Scale: We can explore dozens of ideas annually, far exceeding the output of most conventional studios.

  2. Lean & Student-Powered: Our model leverages motivated students instead of full-time R&D staff, keeping operations nimble and capital-efficient.

  3. Validated Deal Flow: We de-risk early concepts, creating a reliable pipeline of investable startups for partners who specialize in commercialization and growth.
    By bridging underleveraged university talent with the rigor of translational science and venture readiness, BMTT doesn’t just launch companies—we launch better companies, faster, while training the next generation of innovators in the process.

Q: Why focus so heavily on students instead of researchers or faculty?
A: Across the country, college campuses are overflowing with untapped innovation—capstone projects, thesis work, clinical insights, and prototypes that collect dust for lack of a clear commercialization pathway. Traditional university tech transfer rarely touches these early-stage, student-driven ideas.
BMTT exists to change that. We’ve created a mechanism to find these ideas, surround them with structure and validation, and shepherd them toward real-world translation. By giving students a chance to participate meaningfully in healthcare innovation, we’re activating a high-potential but historically overlooked layer of the academic ecosystem.
